Every modern machine in motion — a CNC centre, an automated assembly line or an industrial robot — forces cables and hoses into continuous mechanical work. Bending, twisting, vibration and rapid acceleration are everyday on the shop floor. If cable routes are designed “by eye”, failure and costly downtime are only a matter of time. Real test engineering and maintenance start where wiring is orderly.

The role of energy chains (e.g. igus) and bend radius

In dynamic machines, proven cable-guiding systems such as energy chains (e.g. igus) are essential. Why are they indispensable?

  • Protection against material fatigue: The chain enforces a controlled bend radius, preventing kinks and copper-strand breakage over thousands of work cycles.
  • Strain relief: Correct fastening and strain-relief combs keep mechanical forces off connector contacts and device terminals.

Engineering discipline: media separation and standards

Laying all cables and hoses “together, as long as they fit the trough” is a mistake that leads to electromagnetic interference (EMC), control failures and even life hazard. Per technical standards and good engineering practice, routes must be strictly separated:

  • High- and low-voltage separation: High-power supply cables (high voltage, inverters) generate strong electromagnetic fields that can disturb sensitive measurement signals and data buses (low voltage, fieldbuses). That requires proper distances or separating partitions inside chains and ducts.
  • Keeping pneumatics apart from electrical cables: Compressed-air hoses must never be crushed or loosely tangled with electrical cables. If a hose wears through and air or oil leaks, cable insulation can be damaged and short circuits may follow. Standards require orderly fluid-media routing, often in dedicated chain sections.

Experience and local support in Pomerania

As BEMAT-service I help companies in Kwidzyn and across Pomerania not only with new stations and software, but also with modernisation and audits of existing machines. If production suffers from constantly snapping cables or interference in PLC control systems — it is time for a professional rebuild of cable routes.

Summary

Safe, well-thought cable routes are the guarantee that a machine will run reliably for years. Investing in branded energy chains and strict media-separation standards pays back at the first avoided production-line stoppage.
